Returning to Blogging: A New Chapter Begins
After a break from blogging to complete a news reporting internship, I’m back—ready to go back to publishing about my life, gripping old or unsolved crime stories, pop culture moments, and giving out reviews that demand attention.
As a 23-year-old Hispanic man who lives in the Windy City on the South Side of Chicago, I feel that the South Side gets a bad reputation as “unsafe” or “violent.” However, as a friendly yet shy South Side Chicagoan—you won’t get in trouble if you’re not looking for trouble, is what I've learned while growing up.
Of course, I say watch your surroundings—make sure you have your running shoes on at night. Okay, maybe I came off a little extreme there. But I say this because I did encounter a man who threatened to “slash” me—an incident that took place in Washington, D.C. Poof that violence doesn't discriminate.
In pursuing my future career, I plan to study my local news stations’ writing styles so that I can adapt them to my own when writing news pieces, reviews, or personal reflections. This is a perfect time to build my portfolio, as I have only two weeks left until I graduate from National Louis University.
Spending my days writing and researching at my local library fuels my passion for storytelling. I am driven to keep writing until it takes me somewhere in life.
For those who don’t know me (bc this will be published on my other website), hello, I’m Michael D. Melero, who enjoys writing and researching to uncover compelling stories, adding my two say.
I ran a blog for about three years before taking a break in late 2024 to complete my first, highly competitive, once-in-a-lifetime on-site journalism internship in Washington, D.C.—here is the link to my published articles as a D.C. reporter if you’re interested in reading.
