Jack Black stars in A Minecraft Movie, released in theaters on April 4, where chaos broke out across the U.S. — but why? A viral scene turned the film into a meme-fueled event teens couldn’t resist.

Black is an American actor and comedian known for films like Kung Fu Panda and School of Rock. In A Minecraft Movie, he plays the role of Steve — and one of his scenes quickly went viral.

In the viral “Chicken Jockey” scene, a trend began where audiences — particularly young teens — threw popcorn and drinks at the screen, flashed their phone lights, and screamed throughout the theater.

This caused outrage among the theater staff. One venue, Township Theatre in NJ, even urged that underage moviegoers be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult in order to watch the film.

“Any minors wishing to see The Minecraft Movie MUST be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult,” Township Theatre wrote on Facebook on April 5. They further stated that unaccompanied groups of boys would not be admitted without a guardian.

Even so, a clip posted on X gained over 2.5 million views, showing Black visiting a theater and asking fans not to throw popcorn. In its second week, Warner Bros. is estimated to generate over $80.6 million in ticket sales, according to the Chicago Tribune.

My Review and Rating of the Movie

On Sunday night, I watched A Minecraft Movie with my roommate — and we both liked it. The film takes place in the Minecraft universe, a popular video game set in a blocky world where players can build, explore, and create. Jack Black stars as Steve, who embarks on a mission to help others return to their home universe.

Personally, the storyline felt reused — something I’ve seen in many films before. However, what saved this movie from flopping was its humor. Even though the plot didn’t make much sense to me, it still managed to make me laugh with its quirky comedy.

My final Verdict — I’m Giving it a 4/10. I was lost when it came to the plot opf the movie from beginning to end. Still, I think that might have been the point — to make audiences laugh and embrace the movie as a meme-worthy experience.
